The Province of Potenza - Municipalities Network for Inclusive Resilience
The workshop describes the path towards Inclusive Resilience and Territorial Safety by the Province of Potenza, Italy #weResilient
The aim is to provide a worldwide platform for experiences exchanges and for exploring new transnational cooperations opportunities in the interests of the local communities
Public Forum: Workshop

Aim of the Workshop

After many years working on DRR, Climate Changes and Sustainability, in 2013 the Province of Potenza adopted its Territorial Coordination Master Plan (TCP) that outlines the development of the provincial territory and provides guidelines/support to local actors (including the Municipalities and the Communities) for sustainable and resilient land-use. Innovative is the integration of the “Resilience” policy in territorial/urban planning, a Local Government policy concept based on the integration of the three above main issues regarding the territorial safety and the sustainable development.

During 2014 the Province proceeded with the implementation process by defining a specific strategy that provides for a multi-stakeholder engagement and by setting-up a comprehensive Network with its 100 Municipalities and local communities for facilitating their full engagement in the implementation process.

The Province of Potenza and its Network joined as a whole to the UNISDR Making Cities Resilient Campaign and provided for a strong contribution both to he HFA implementation and to the post 2015 HFA2 preparation process. These contributions have been provided also to the preparatory process of the 3 World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction where the Province participated as a Local Governments representative.

For its active engagement and contribution, in January 2015 the Province of Potenza and its Municipalities Network has been appointed by UNISDR as a World ROLE MODEL for Inclusive Resilience and Territorial Safety.

The workshop aims at illustrating the policy-making strategy adopted to implement Resilience to DRR and Climate Changes and the strengths of using a subsidiary supportive and multi-stakeholders network approach.

The coordination will be held by the President of the Province of Potenza, Mr. Nicola Valluzzi, and the HFA Local Focal Point and Advocate of the UNISDR Making Cities Resilient Campaign, Mr. Alessandro Attolico, Executive Director of the Territorial Planning and Civil Protection Office at the Province of Potenza.

Some Mayors of the Province of Potenza Municipalities Network will be present to share their engagement in the local Resilience implementation process.
